IT Enrichment
P5 Digital Art : The pupils of Primary 5, will not be having their lessons for the current week, as the pupils are having their CA1 Exams
P2, Cyber Word Attack : The enrichment lessons are going on smoothly for the pupils. All the 3 classes are on par and they will complete their first assignment on creating the recipe " Strawberry Milkshake" next week. They will be starting their second assignment, a recipe on "Pop pop popcorns".
P1 Sponge Bob Square Pants Typing: I have checked with Ms Lum, the nos. of CD's she has got for this academic year, 2008 is 270. She has got extra 120 CD's which to be used for next year, 2009 for all the 4 labs. Hence there isnt a need to purchase SpongeBob SquarePants CD's.
Btw, we have the CD Case for the last year together with the warrenty card. It is occupying space. Can I suggest to throw the CD Cases away.....
As for the 120 SpongeBob CD's planned for next year, can we slot them in the CD Pounches that we have. It will be compact and look neat.
DOT COM CLUB : As for the DOT COM Club, I am preparing materials for the lesson on Podcasting. The pupils will be learning on how to Podcast.
Cyber Wellness : We had our discussion with Zhang Min in regd to Cyber Wellness. We are to start preparing the Lesson Plan, Lesson Outlines and the resources for the pupils
I have suggested to Zhang Min that after equiping the pupils with the necessary skills in regd to the cyber world, then we can open up the Blog Module or forum or discussion among the pupils. It will put their skills to test. Currently the Blog Module is closed for the pupils, as they spamming it. The pupils are also spamming the forum module too.
Admin Work
This coming week, there is not much of Admin work.
I am done collating the details for the Social Studies IPW Project, Hajjah Fatimah Mosque.
I also created a loan forms exclusively for the Director's Cut, such that they can just sign once for all the equipments they are loaning for the year.

Updates of T1, Wk 8
IT Enrichment
P4 - I AM THE EXCELLENT BOSS
As for the Saturdays' s lessons held on 23/2, the attendance %was better compared to the first 2 lessons. Email has been sent to the parents of the pupils who were absent for the 2nd lesson. As for the pupils who were absent for both the lessons, they were transferred to class 7, which runs in June hols. An email was sent for the parents too. 2 students were absent for the class 1 and there was full attendance for the class 2.
P5 - DIGITAL ART
The classes for the Digital art are going on smoothly. The pupils are excited on doing their class portrait. I have asked extension for 2 more weeks with the Art teachers to complete their Digital Art Project on Class Portrait and also to choose their pictures for printing. The ART teachers have agreed to it and they have allowed me to use their art lessons T2, Wk 1 and Wk2. to complete the Digital Art lesson
P2 - CYBER WORD ATTACK
The classes for the P2 Cyber Word Attack are going on smoothly. I have talked with Arlette (Form Teacher of P2.8) for a swap the IT Enrichment lesson and Maths lessons (taken by Arlette). She has agreed to it. Hence for the class P2.8, the pupils will be having their IT Enrichment from 12pm - 1pm on Thursday, instead of 11am - 12pm.
P1 - Hardware Module
The Hardware Awareness for the P1 pupils is completed across the whole level, except for a pupil from P1.4 (Mdm Ramiya's class), as he was absent.
Admin Task
EL Listening Compre : EL listening Compre is still being carried over to this week. I am waiting for the feedback from Regina, as she said she will check the first passage and see if it meets the standards.
Social Studies Project 2007 : The social studies project, jointly done by the ITB officer, Mr Anthony and Mdm Ramiah, is being carried over to this week to be completed by 29th Feb. The ITB officer is not able to view the email automatically sent by the system which contains the discussions of the pupils. Hence, I am retrieving the discussions of the pupils from Mdm Ramiah's acct.
I have tried using the Snapfish for Digital Photo Printing. To print one photo it costs 19 cents. Courier service is provided to send down the pictures to the school.
Followed up on the LEAD acct creation and LOA accts.

Junior Daily
After talking to the form teachers, the attendance is better. I will repeat the Junior Daily training on their first day of updating as most of them have forgotten the steps.
P3 Cyber Power Adventure (Saturday Class)
Alot of the boys are transferred to class7. The attendance is pretty much fixed to an average of 89+%. The P3 boys are smart and they did their work very fast. All of them finished their individual projects. Some of them already finished their group work while some still could not cooperate with each other. I will do a recap lesson next week where they will learn all the tools they used. This is to refresh their memory because they tend to forget the steps easily.
For the other classes (class3-7) I will give them two individual projects. I find that the boys performed better with individual projects. This will also lower down the noise volume.

Miss Chia updated me on the errors. I corrected them according and I will send it back to her by today. If there are any more changes she will let me know.

Pupils' Work / Meetings
Good job and great ideas! At the end of the day, parents need to know what their kids are doing in school, and by having to take something back, their parents would definitely be proud of their sons. As for the portfolio ideas, yes, it is good and we can explore that as well. I know of some schools which have e-portfolio. Good for the kids so that they can look back and see what they have done and achieved.
Now, some homework. Please kindly read the article below. It gives some pointers to provide good service. Although we are not directly doing sales, we are part of service industry as well. So, it will be good if we can practise good customer service. Like I said before, we need to learn and keep improving. We need not attend a course or workshop to improve, even by reading and reflecting, we can learn and improve as well.

Oh yes, one more thing. I will have meeting once a month. It will follow the format below:
1) Up-coming programmes (major ones)
2) Major problems/issues - eg: many PCs not working, low attendance for classes

All meeting will be on the last Monday of each month. As for Feb, we will meet on Tuesday instead (late notice and to give time to prepare).
Please prepare for meetings as I want to keep them short. Meetings must be useful (add value), else, it will be a waste of time.

P5 Art teachers Suggestion
I have discussed with Arlette, in printing their work. She suggested in printing the work for all the classes i.e. P5 level. She felt it is unfair, if we print the work for just pupils of P5.9 only.
It is kinna of lot..... but I think we can manage it.
I have asked her to give us an extra week with the boys, so that they can choose the photo they want to print and also include their name & class on it. It will be easy on r part to distribute it to the pupils if we have their name and class on the picture.

Showcasing Pupil's work
I've been thinking abt it for some too... How can we showcase the pupils work ? Can the students work put to good use?
The P5 Art work will be displayed to the whole school every year during a week alloted for the Art. The best works of their Assignment 1, Fruit Basket and Assignment 2, Scenary will be chosen by the Art teachers and displayed in the Foyer. The Assignment 3 - The Class Potrait, will also be used by the teachers.
The P3 Pupils work is closely realted to what they are studying now. Can we use it as a teaching resource for Science Subject ? The first thing that comes to our mind, is the content creditable? Yes we can work on it. We can check with the Science HOD and see if she is willing to make use the ppt. presentations as a teaching tool.
The P2 pupils work is also cosely related to what they will be learning in English for their 2nd Semester. The P2 pupils are tasked to create a recipe at the end of the 2nd Sem. We can choose the best student's work and ask the teachers to use it as a sample project for their assignment.
As for P5, P4, P3 and P2 their work can be converted to a .pdf file, archived and uploaded in the school website for display... Can we?

Week 2
Pupils' Training
Hi, good job by the boys. Now, we need to think of a way to show case the work done by pupils. However, do be careful of which pictures to showcase, especially if we are using the Internet. Put only pictures done using original source.
Also, do think of some ways to improve the Web and admin processes.

BTW, I have decided to settle the Camera and Video cam issue. The DC pupils will use the equipment but our dept wil be in-charge of them. We will send the cam for repair if faulty. However, do keep track of the number of times we are sending in the equipment for repair. If the pupils are not handling well, I will have to talk to the teachers-in-charge.

Enrichment Programmes
P5 Digital Art : The P5 Digital Art is coming to an end of the 7 weeks lesson. The pupils will be finishining their graded assignment on Scenary by this week. Lesson 7 is a buffer lesson. I discussed with Arlette and thought of creating a class potrait using the skills they have learnt in Photoshop. The teachers have been asked to take pictures of their class boys. The pupils will be creating a class potrait and pasting them against the famous places of the world( Big Ben, Sydney Opera House, Pyramid, Taj Mahal, Eiffle Tower....) or the cartoon character. I have been working on it, to source the pictures for the pupils and creating the sample class potrait. Below is a smaple. Im sure the boys will love it.
P2, Cyber Word Attack : The lessons have been going on smoothly for P2.7 & P2.9 pupils, expect for the P2.8. Due to the change in the teachers quite often, the pupils are behind schedule. But shld'nt be much of a prob as there is a buffer week to cover the syllabus.
Thursdays are marathons for us..... After finishing our lesson we rush to finish the lesson with P2.8. Awaiting for the new IT Exec. person ;)
P4, I am the EXCELlent Boss : The attendance for the saturday classes have been down for the past week too. I had about 9 absentees in each class. Im planning to call the parents of the pupils, and remind them to send their pupils for the lessons on satudays.
Admin Task
EL Listening compre : I am working on the EL listening comprehension. It was yesterday (18/2), I received the details for the listening compre. Am amending it and will get it done by this week (Wk.8).
Social Studies ICT Project 2007, Hajjah Fatimah Mosque : Mr Anthony ( ITB Officer, MOE HQ) together with Mdm Ramiah have been working on this project, a discussion on Hajjah Fatimah Mosque using the discussison module in the LEAD portal.
Mr Anthony, had requested the discussions of the pupils on the topic Hajjah Fatimah Mosque. He wanted to print out a copy of it. But unfortunately, the discussions of the pupils have been deleted and I had requested Jasmond to retrive it for me. But he replied saying that, the technical team could not retrive the disucssions of the pupils, as the discussions module is outsourced.
Fortunately, a copy of the discussions have been emailed to Mdm Ramiah, Mr Anthony and me. Will try talking to Mr Anthony and look out for an effective way to settle this issue.
SpongeBob SquarePants CD's : Worked on sourcing the CD's last week. Will have to find the suitable vendor and the price of it.

I find that it is hard for the boys to work in groups. Some of them did not participate or were isolated by their team mates. As a result, I noticed that their group work is not as good as their individual work.
For example: For group work they will only do what they are required to do while for individual work, they will explore more tools in the software to enhance their work.
I discuessed with Linda and she advised me to use the grading system for next lesson. I will give grades to the groups according to the boy's team work, behavior and presentation skills in class. The grades of cause will not be showed in their report book but I will not tell the boys that =x

I still have abit problem with the boys. They tend to forget to update especially during a new week or after school holidays or there is a switch of boys. I guess I have to hunt them for the whole year x_x!

ICT Blog
Hi, this will be our dept blog. We will use it to share and to update on the status of the programmes and projects. Please kindly update at least once a week so that all of us know what is going on in the dept. (At least we read this more than our "Minutes book")
Just to kick start, I will share some ways to be more innovative and creative. We should always look around us to find ways to improve whatever we have done. Very often, we look at things which are related/similiar to our job scope. We should also look at things which are totally different from whatever we are doing. For example, I was told that HP visited a toy factory to find out how to produce cheap printers.
So, be more open-minded. There are many ideas out there which we can use/adapt so as to improve our current process.
Do remember to post, as it is better have more people thinking and sharing compared to just one.
Take care and hope to hear from your soon.
